This is an image of an offshore wind farm in the U.K. The small darker specks are very large ships to give you an idea of the size. This is, probably, about 5 acres.
I wanted to post this because one of the arguments against wind power are placing turbines near or in site of homes. But the potential for offshore wind in the U.S. is incredible.
If a farm like this was built offshore, and so far away that, most days, those who can see the ocean would not see it or; so far the curvature of the Earth hides it, would it be a problem for any NIMBYs?
I think not. The alternative, more nukes, more coal, more pollution, more mercury in the environment (the majority of which comes from coal power plants), more global warming and the increase in tropical climate diseases moving to northern regions and the loss of the arctic, would stink.
